Periuk uses services from a number of third party providers, including Google Analytics, Mailchimp, Disqus (our commenting system), Polylang (our multilingual support plugin), AirTable (our form management system) and Akismet (our anti-spam protection). Each of these services sends cookies for different reasons, as we’ve detailed below, but we use them primarily to ensure we are able to run our Site properly.
If you use certain services on our Site, you may be asked to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact and/or identify you. This may include, but is not limited to, your name and email address. These communications are entirely opt-in, and you may unsubscribe from them via the instructions provided in any email we send.
We enable comments on our Site using the Disqus commenting system, which is paired with the Akismet anti-spam software. If/when you leave a comment on our Site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as your IP address and the browser agent string (this tells us what browser or operating system you’re using) in order to detect and prevent spam.
Akismet is one of the most widely-used services for catching and preventing spam comments, and only collects information to carry out this service.
We may embed social media links into content on our Site (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) or links to our social media pages on these platforms. If you decide to click on a piece of embedded social media or a link, the Site will send a cookie to your device which will track your use of the service. This data typically expires after two (2) years, though the time period will refresh if you revisit the link.
We use Google Analytics to help us understand and measure how you interact with our Site. As you move through our Site, the cookies sent by Google Analytics helps us understand what pages you are looking at, how long you are spending on them, and so on. These cookies do not identify you, and the information is aggregated and anonymised. We currently only use the data gleaned from these cookies to improve our services, though in the future, we may use the information (aggregated and anonymised) to pitch Periuk to advertisers. This data will never be sold to third parties, and will expire one (1) month from the time the cookies are sent to your computer.. Cookies sent by Google Analytics will expire two (2) years from the time it is sent. However, if you re-visit a page, the time will reset from that point.
For more information on Google Analytics’ cookies, visit this page.
In order to prevent the use of Google Analytics in relation to your use of our Services, you can download and install this browser plugin.
We use Airtable, a cloud collaboration system, to manage recipe submissions from our users and contributors. By submitting anything through our Airtable-enabled recipe submission form, you will be providing us with not only the content but also the information required by the form (email, name, etc.). We will never sell this information to third parties, and will only disclose it when required by law enforcement.
How do we use this information?
The information that we have collected through the Site is used to help us create content, understand which articles are performing well, and how often certain pages or pieces of content are visited in order to improve the Site and tailor our offerings. This information may be used one day to support advertising on or off Periuk through the building up of the Site’s profile, though we will never sell any data with identifying details. Data will be anonymised and aggregated before it is shown to any third party.

We will use reasonable precautions to ensure the security of your data, such as limiting access to the sources of information and making use of data security software. However, we will not be responsible or liable for any breach of security that may occur despite our reasonable efforts to protect your privacy.
