Our Privacy Principles

What information do we collect?
Generally speaking, Periuk may collect information in a number of ways, including when you subscribe to our newsletter(s), fill in and submit forms relating to our services, register for anything on our Site or via services on our Site, when you interact with any Periuk contact person(s), or a number of other reasons.
We advise you to read this policy in full to ensure you are aware of what information is being collected, as well as how it is used.
What are cookies?
A cookie is a small bit of information with a unique identifier that gets stored on your computer, mobile device, and/or tablet. Cookies are sent to your browser from our Site, and helps inform us what pages on our Site you visited, and how long you spent on them. Periuk may rely on cookies, especially those used by our analytics vendor, to learn more about how users engage with our Site, and possibly to support future plans for advertising.
If you do not wish to allow cookies in relation to our Site, you may instruct your browser to refuse all cookies (more on this below) or to let you know when a cookie is being sent. Periuk uses services from a number of third party providers, including Google Analytics, Mailchimp, Disqus (our commenting system), Polylang (our multilingual support plugin), AirTable (our form management system) and Akismet (our anti-spam protection). Each of these services sends cookies for different reasons, as we’ve detailed below, but we use them primarily to ensure we are able to run our Site properly.
If you use certain services on our Site, you may be asked to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact and/or identify you. This may include, but is not limited to, your name and email address. This information will be maintained securely by us, and may be used to contact you with newsletters, marketing or promotional materials, and other information that may be of interest to you. We will never sell this information to third parties.
These communications are entirely opt-in, and you may unsubscribe from them via the instructions provided in any email we send.
We enable comments on our Site using the Disqus commenting system, which is paired with the Akismet anti-spam software. If/when you leave a comment on our Site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as your IP address and the browser agent string (this tells us what browser or operating system you’re using) in order to detect and prevent spam.
Akismet is one of the most widely-used services for catching and preventing spam comments, and only collects information to carry out this service.
We may embed social media links into content on our Site (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) or links to our social media pages on these platforms. If you decide to click on a piece of embedded social media or a link, the Site will send a cookie to your device which will track your use of the service. This data typically expires after two (2) years, though the time period will refresh if you revisit the link.
We use Google Analytics to help us understand and measure how you interact with our Site. As you move through our Site, the cookies sent by Google Analytics helps us understand what pages you are looking at, how long you are spending on them, and so on. These cookies do not identify you, and the information is aggregated and anonymised. We currently only use the data gleaned from these cookies to improve our services, though in the future, we may use the information (aggregated and anonymised) to pitch Periuk to advertisers. This data will never be sold to third parties, and will expire one (1) month from the time the cookies are sent to your computer.. Cookies sent by Google Analytics will expire two (2) years from the time it is sent. However, if you re-visit a page, the time will reset from that point.

We use Airtable, a cloud collaboration system, to manage recipe submissions from our users and contributors. By submitting anything through our Airtable-enabled recipe submission form, you will be providing us with not only the content but also the information required by the form (email, name, etc.). We will never sell this information to third parties, and will only disclose it when required by law enforcement.
How do we use this information?
The information that we have collected through the Site is used to help us create content, understand which articles are performing well, and how often certain pages or pieces of content are visited in order to improve the Site and tailor our offerings. This information may be used one day to support advertising on or off Periuk through the building up of the Site’s profile, though we will never sell any data with identifying details. Data will be anonymised and aggregated before it is shown to any third party.
Protection of Data
We will use reasonable precautions to ensure the security of your data, such as limiting access to the sources of information and making use of data security software. However, we will not be responsible or liable for any breach of security that may occur despite our reasonable efforts to protect your privacy.
Content from other sites
As a media Site, articles and content on Periuk may include embedded media (e.g. videos, images, podcasts, links, social media pages, etc.). Interacting with these pieces of embedded media may result in cookies being sent to your device from a third-party, or even additional third-party tracking.
